Local Knowledge, from Start to Finish

"That was a fabulous trip! Our day to Burnaby Island has become my new gold standard for the perfect day."
~ Suzanne Klassen, Calgary

Living in Sandspit BC on the Queen Charlotte Islands every summer since 1994 has provided Owner/Operator Steve Konik with the unique opportunity to navigate over 800 days in the Queen Charlotte Islands alone. This makes OSK's presence in the islands longer than other visiting operators.

As a result we have forged genuine friendships with the residents, exposing guests to local knowledge and customs. Visitors traveling with OSK experience the lifestyles unique to the area.

Freedom: Mixed Fleet of 6 Singles and 2 Doubles Sea Kayaks

"Paddling with the ocean current takes our sea kayak from one unforgettable experience to the next."
~ Your Guide, Steve

Unlike other outfitters who offer the one boat fits all scenario! OSK can easily accommodate both beginners and expert paddlers with their mixed fleet of fiber glass sea kayaks which provide the Comfort, the Confidence, and the Experience you Deserve!

We use the Nimbus Telkwa Series for our 6 single boats to accommodate our small group size of 8 guests. These boats all range in performance levels allowing guests the opportunity to rotate amongst the fleet and try the different boats, but most of all they provide guests the freedom of independent travel.

The Nootka and Scanna, our double sea kayaks, provide a unique experience that delights both the novice and experienced paddler! They offer a paddler a more leisurely day, confidence when needed, company, and most importantly, the middle hatch; where we store our fresh produce!

Cuisine

"The food was simply unbelievable. The guides blew us away with what they were able to coax out of a camp kitchen. There was always plenty to eat, it was always delicious, and nightly, their baking astounded us."
~ Rod Vullenvue, Calgary

Quality, Quantity and Variety are never compromised. Food is an essential part of a successful trip. Every day OSK provides delicious and healthy 3 course meals that are as stunning as the scenery.

We can accommodate any dietary restrictions.

Using fresh local produce we provide a well balanced diet that emphasizes flavor and nourishment. Just sit back and imagine how good your dinner will taste at the end of a great day of paddling! Your guides have a wide repertoire of menus and extended experience in the preparation of interesting meals. No oatmeal here!

We cook almost all meals over an open fire, complimented by the use of an outback oven to bake: Frochocia bread, Carrot Cake, and our guests' favorite Yam Brownie. Yum!

A full breakfast is served daily with fresh fruits, hot drinks, omelets, French toast, whole grain pan cakes, and much more. Lunch, en route, tends to be deli style complemented by hearty salads, and chocolate!!! Dinner is always 3 courses, with a surprise for dessert.

Engaging Atmosphere

"Our trip was a wonderful experience- top quality guiding, good giggles, and just enough challenges! - Not to forget the fabulous food, scenery, and weather. Your knowledge, expertise, and good humor ramped things up from great to superb. Haida Gwaii was a definite highlight and your intro to it and obvious respect for it top notch. Many thanks for a wonderful and memorable trip!"
~ Alison Mueller, Ottawa

Most importantly OSK wants to remove guests from their distractions of everyday life, while promoting freedom, activity and self discovery. Our tours present a relaxed pace that encourage opportunities for guests to return from their adventure with renewed appreciation for the talents they possess. Others may even discover abilities that they have yet to spark!

Guides combined with guests take into account weather, tides, wildlife, and the general interest of the group, to make up our daily trip itinerary. When in camp, guests often share their strengths in creating a communal atmosphere when needed.

But most importantly our tours are fun and memorable!

Responsibility to the Environmental

Our passion for the natural environment and wildlife is simply the reason OSK operates exclusively in Queen Charlotte Islands. As a local operator it is our responsibility to practice low impact and no trace camping standards to protect the values of the many unique natural wonders and cultural treasures found in this area. OSK guests will benefit from the knowledge of their guides, as they avoid the congested bottle necks or over used sites that visiting operators and independent travelers tend to use.

Your guides are wildlife enthusiasts who are always searching for intimate encounters. We encourage environments that favor the wildlife. Understanding and respecting wildlife habitat and boundaries allows us unique opportunities to experience wildlife at their best. We always have the best interest of the wildlife we see in mind!

Guaranteed Trip Departure

Unlike most operators, OSK is committed to operate all tours that we have booked. We do not cancel tours that lack our minimum participant requirement; your commitment is worth a tour of a lifetime!

Safety First!

There is no compromise when it comes to the safety of our trips. Present on all tours are 2 guides who are professionally certified by the governed bodies, the SKGABC or SKABC, which are known for there high standards in our sport, Guides are also trained in Advanced Wilderness First Aid, and are well versed in our local wildlife, weather, Native culture and environmental concerns. Their wealth of out door pursuits and experiences make them confident in their environments.

Affordability & Diversity of Wilderness Tours

Working closely with Moresby Explorers Ltd. allows us to provide guests with 2 extra paddling days for the same price as our competitors 8 day tours. These two extra paddling days allows our guests the unique opportunity of paddling to Hot Springs Island and Sgaang Gwaii (Ninstints). Other than the natural beauty, these are the National Parks two biggest highlights.

Designed for beginners and experienced paddlers, our fully catered tours range in duration and location, providing the experience you deserve!
